The Story Behind the Custom Adapter
Let me tell you the story about how I came up with this useful little kit.
Over two years ago, I was pleased to discover that the new line of Leatherman Wave, Charge AL/ALX/TTI, & Surge tools included a little attachment called the "Large Bit Holder". I purchased the "New" Wave and was a little disappointed to find that additional screwdriver bits for the tool cost so much. While inspecting the bits closely it dawned on me as to how I could make my own! But rather than customizing a whole set of bits, why not just make an adapter to fit in the "Large Bit Holder" so I could just use any inexpensive 1/4" bit I wanted, so I did. You know what? That little adapter became one of the most used tools in my Leatherman sheath (the adapter and two long bits fit nicely in the side pockets of the leather sheath that came with my "Wave"). This little device enabled me to do about 90% of my job with my Leatherman.
Sadly, I lost my adapter a little while ago, so I set out to make a replacement. While at the store buying a replacement adapter to customize, my 12 year old son said, "Dad, why don't you make some more and sell them on eBay?" I thought, "Why not? Why shouldn't others enjoy the benefits of such a useful tool?" We bought a few Black & Decker Hex Bit Adapter Kits and I modified the kit adapters to fit the "Large Bit Holder" at the same time I customized my own replacement adapter. I found my little creation to be so popular that I started making more of them. So now, I have some kits for you to buy and enjoy. I hope you find this adapter kit as useful as I have found mine to be.
